Masseter Botox: A slimmer jawline and relief from teeth clenching
Masseter · Jaw
Last updated: 23 September 2026
A tense jaw, teeth clenching at night or a jawline that feels wide and square? It can all be linked to the chewing muscle, the masseter. At LuxyBelle Clinic in Solna, Stockholm, we treat the masseter with botox – a gentle injection treatment that can both ease tension and give the face a softer, slimmer shape.

What is the masseter muscle?
The masseter is one of the strongest muscles in the body and sits on each side of the jaw, between the cheekbone and the angle of the jaw. We use it every time we chew. In people who clench or grind their teeth – often unconsciously at night or during stressful periods – the muscle works hard and can become larger and tenser over time. This can cause discomfort as well as a wider, more square jawline.
How does the treatment work?
We inject botox with a fine needle at a few points in the masseter on each side. The botulinum toxin reduces the muscle's activity so that it relaxes. You can still chew, talk and smile as usual – the muscle just doesn't work as hard. The treatment takes about 15 minutes and most people describe it as a couple of light pricks. You can return to your daily routine straight away.
Who is the treatment for?
- Teeth clenching and grinding: Reduces bite force and can ease soreness, tension and jaw-related headaches.
- Tense, sore jaw: For you who wake up with a stiff jaw or feel that your jaw muscles never fully relax.
- Wide or square jawline: As the muscle relaxes it gradually becomes smaller, giving a slimmer, softer facial shape.
If you grind your teeth, we also recommend talking to your dentist, for example about a night guard.
When will I see results and how long do they last?
Relief from tension is often noticeable after one to two weeks. The aesthetic effect – a slimmer jawline – develops gradually and is most visible after four to six weeks, once the muscle has reduced in size. The effect usually lasts three to six months. With repeated treatments, results tend to last longer.
Is the treatment safe?
Yes, when performed by licensed professionals. At LuxyBelle, all injection treatments are performed by licensed nurses or doctors at an IVO-registered clinic. Temporary tenderness or a feeling of tiredness when chewing may occur during the first few days. Does the masseter treatment hurt?
Most people only feel a couple of light pricks. The treatment is quick and usually requires no anaesthetic.
Can I chew normally afterwards?
Yes. The muscle relaxes but still works. Some people find their jaw feels a little more tired with chewy food during the first few weeks.
Does botox help with teeth grinding?
Botox reduces the force of the chewing muscle and can therefore ease the symptoms of clenching and grinding. The treatment does not replace dental care, but can be a good complement.
How soon will my jawline look slimmer?
The change is gradual and most visible after four to six weeks.
